Badminton is one of the most dynamic sports in the world, combining speed and strategy. With the global experience we have gained as Reform Sports since 1994, we know that a professional badminton experience is possible not only with talent but with a playing field that strictly complies with international standards.
Whether you are planning a professional tournament hall or a multi-purpose sports complex, every millimeter of the court directly affects player performance and safety. Here are the basic technical details you need to know for a flawless project:
What Are the Badminton Court Dimensions?
A badminton court has a dynamic structure that varies according to the type of game (singles or doubles). A court at international standards must always be in a full rectangular form and clarified with lines that create high contrast with the floor.
You can examine the basic measurement standards in the table below:
| Feature | Singles | Doubles |
|---|---|---|
| Total Length | 13.40 Meters | 13.40 Meters |
| Total Width | 5.18 Meters | 6.10 Meters |
| Total Area | 69.41 m² | 81.74 m² |
| Net Post Height | 1.55 Meters | 1.55 Meters |
| Net Center Height | 1.52 Meters | 1.52 Meters |
Not only the playing area of the court but also the safety gaps around it are indispensable for a professional facility. Leaving a gap of at least 1.5 meters from the sides and 2 meters from the back prevents players from getting injured during high-speed rallies. If you want to use your space most efficiently, we can offer you flexible projects with our multi-purpose sports court solutions.
Professional Badminton Court Lines
For a court to be called “professional,” its lines must be determined with millimetric precision. These lines are not just boundaries, but guides that determine all the rules of the game:
- Line Width: All court lines must be 40 mm (4 cm) wide without exception.
- Short Service Line: It is located 1.98 meters away from both sides of the net and is the first boundary that must be crossed for the service to be considered valid.
- Center Line: It divides the court longitudinally into two, creating the right and left service areas.
- Back Service Line (Doubles): It is the furthest point where the ball can land during a serve in a doubles game; it is positioned 0.76 meters inside the back boundary line.
- Color Selection: Lines should generally be applied in easily recognizable colors such as white or yellow on green or blue floors.

International Badminton Court Standards
The standards determined by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) are not limited to the lines on the ground. The critical technical criteria that determine the quality of the game in an indoor sports hall are:
- Ceiling Height: The clear ceiling height for professional matches must be at least 9 meters. In major international tournaments, this standard goes up to 12 meters.
- Lighting: Lighting that does not tire the eyes, does not create shadows, and is distributed equally (homogeneous) throughout the court is essential. A minimum level of 1000 lux is considered ideal.
- Airflow: Since the badminton ball (shuttlecock) is very light, ventilation systems should be designed in a way that does not affect the flight of the ball.
- Floor Flexibility: In order to protect athlete health; non-slip PVC or special suspended wooden parquet systems with high shock-absorbing properties should be preferred.
We specially design each project according to regional climate conditions and land structure so that your facility both meets these technical requirements and fits your budget. For your financial planning, you can access up-to-date details on our badminton court cost page.
